Borneo's Kinabalu National Park - Getaway Back Home

Time is of the essence. How many times we come across this phrase but yet to come to its real meaning until we realise that it has passes us by. With the hustle and bustle of life in the city, time is one thing that most often than not, comes unnoticed until it slaps us right in the face. Yes, once we pondered this fact, only then we realized that the kids have grown up or the fact that we have aged progressively.

During the kids' long holiday in November 2004, we came across a rare opportunity to have quality family time. Lucky enough to acquire a booking during the school holiday, we packed and went up to our rented cabin on the foot hill of Mount Kinabalu, the Kota Kinabalu National Park. The kids were ecstatic, they get to wear their cold attires and we, well, it was a much needed break from the mambo jumbo down hill.

The cabin had a spectacular view of Mount Kinabalu, a feast to the eyes. It was cosy and spacious enough to fit two families. We cooked our dinner in front of the fire place, an amazing experience to the kids.

Daylight took us to a walk around the park. A most challenging task to say the least to one that only hopped in and out of a car, day in and day out. But all those aching muscles, to keep up with the kids' young and spirited muscles and most notably the piggyback walk with the small one is compensated, the mountain views and peaceful ambiance are a killer. And to enjoy that with your precious ones are the most heavenly moments.

We had a blast of a time and after spending two nights at the mountains, we headed back to town, exhausted yet fulfilled. We promised the kids a return once the opportunity comes a knocking. It has taken quite a while to undergo that journey again but the chance of a repeat is most likely this year round.

A return to the place that my 3-year old son called the place of the dinosaur trees.

Woodlands

The Management of the housing estate-Melinsung Summerbay Resort Apertment, Papar did a wonderful job of turning this once harsh and inaccesible area to a wonderful woodlands.
It is impressive that they were able to keep the original trees around. The forest floor is now covered with flower plants and a joy to watch when they bloom. It is cool underneath these local pine trees and is especially useful in a warm sunny day.

Surfing In Borneo

Check out these two guys surfing! Not only they face each other, balancing looked casual and so, so effortlessly. Eat your heart out all pro-surfers, we have cool surfers here!
Nah, these two guys are actually fishing on a small bamboo raft. The picture was taken at the beach of Melinsung Summer Bay Resort Apartments, Papar Sabah.
This is where my wife and I bought our home. It is a small 3 bedroom apartment but nevertheless enough for a small family like ours. The beach is nice, the landscape is beautiful.

Menara Tun Mustapha, Kota Kinabalu.

It is unbelievable that the building was built 30 years ago, when Sabah was only known for her virgin rainforest. The tower never failed to amaze me since childhood and there isn't any time that i did not lay my eyes on it whenever it's visible.

The building erected in 1977 and all of Sabah's riches were managed in this 30-storey building. It was formerly known as Bangunan Yayasan Sabah (Sabah Foundation Building) and changed
to Menara Tun Mustapha as founder and the first Sabah's Chief Minister.

I captured the picture from a bridge nearby while the first one from my car. It is a blend of land, sky, sea and somewhere between that!

Tanjung Aru Beach, Kota Kinabalu Sabah

A spectacular display of colors by nature.

My son was enjoying himself running around the beach and another kid was in the warmth of South China Sea water.
The sun was about to set in and on a better day, the sunset could be picture perfect and amazing to witness.

Silhoutte

This picture was taken at Tanjung Aru Beach, Kota Kinabalu. The beach is a perfect site for re-energizing yourself from the week's job.

Beside the stunning view, it is also great for jogging, beach football, picnic, etc. It's always nice to shed sweats and enjoy the moment.

If you have a taste for food, or you would like to satisfy your thirst, there are food stalls, bar, grill & restaurant not far from the spot this picture was taken.

However you want to spend your time here, it will sure be a quality time alone or with a company or two. A moment will come when time seems to be frozen. Everything will be silenced and your mind will watch and feel the sunset rather than your eyes.
After the moment passes, all the negative energy in your body and soul will disappear. The experience will suppress all other thoughts on your mind.
